# ETT Application Procedure

Folling this ETT Application Procedure is imperative to product performance. If you require further assistance, please contact the Alchemco Technical Department.

## Product Storage

All products containing ETT have no known shelf life. ETT products shall be stored away from direct sunlight at all times. If left in direct sunlight during high temperatures, product effectiveness may be affected. Freezing must be avoided. If freezing occurs, the product may be left at room temperature until thawed. If overheating or freezing is suspected, please send a sample to Alchemco HQ for review. Protect material from extreme temperatures during transportation and storage. Do not allow product to remain exposed to excessive heat or cold temperatures for prolonged periods.

## Surfaces to Protect

ETT may cause damage to glass, aluminum, and other painted surfaces. It is important to protect these surfaces at all times when handling ETT.

## Equipment Requirements

The following equipment may be required to complete installation:

• Surface preparation equipment (pressure washer, shot blaster, etc.)

• Low-pressure sprayer (backpack, hand pump, vehicle with spray bar, etc.)

• Clean water source

• Materials for protected surfaces

• Rollers and/or brushes

• Caulking guns and tools

• Air compressor

• Vacuum

All equipment shall be suitable for achieving proper surface preparation and application as outlined in this guide.

## Order of Operations

All surface preparation activities shall be completed prior to ETT application including cleaning, removal of incompatible materials, and opening of defects. Crack preparation and treatment must also be completed prior to the full ETT application.

In general, the sequence shall follow:

1\. Initial step: Opening of honeycombs, voids, concrete cover, and all concrete defects

2\. Surface preparation – CSP, absorption hindrances (laitences, cement droppings, contaminants, etc.)

3\. Crack Preparation – Routing cracks, sealing soffit cracks, etc.

4\. Crack Treatment – Pre-treating, Crack Accelerating Agent as necessary, etc.

5\. ETT Application

6\. Water Misting – 1 to 3hrs after ETT (do not exceed 6 hours)

\*7. \* Surface Accelerating Agent – any time after 1 day post-ETT *(if required)*

8\. Post-application repairs & cleaning

9\. Detail work – Caulkings, flashings, etc.

*(see Surface Prep, ETT Application Procedure, and Acceleration Guide for further details)*

## Coverage Rate & Spray Methodology

ETT shall be applied using a low-pressure sprayer with a fan pattern nozzle to ensure uniform distribution and proper control over the amount that is being applied.

While we recommend low-pressure sprayers, there is no defined psi limit as to what sprayer may be used to apply ETT - as long as proper control of the amount being applied is maintained, excessive foaming does not occur, and uniform distribution is present.

As ETT utilizes the pore structure in the concrete to absorb and remain sub-surface, it is important not to over-apply as excess product remaining on the surface may result in unwanted surface remnants. These remnants typically will go away on their own with surface wear and weathering.

ETT shall be applied at 200 square feet per gallon or 5 Square meters per Liter.

Varying absorption rates may allow this number to fluctuate up or down, but an important rule is this:

NO POOLING! NO PUDDLING!

The goal is to fully saturate the concrete while limiting surface remnants.

As you are applying, if an area previously sprayed has begun drying fast, it may be sprayed over again to achieve the required 200 square feet per gallon. Measuring each section and preparing the appropriate amount of product will aid greatly during application.

## Horizontal vs Vertical

When applying to a horizontal surface, gravity assists in capillary action, which is the absorption process. Capillary action occurs even against gravity as it is driven by surface tension.

Due to the lack of gravity’s assistance, we require that:

Vertical and overhead surfaces are applied in two (2) passes at a rate of 400 square feet per gallon with approximately one (1) hour of wait time between passes – totaling 200 square feet per gallon.

## Water Misting

After ETT has been applied, the area should be blocked off and let sit for 1 to 3 hours, before proceeding with water misting. Water misting assists with the absorption and activation of ETT within the concrete.

Water misting shall be performed at the same rate and methodology as ETT is applied for both horizontal and vertical surfaces.

*(see Coverage Rate & Spray Methodology and Horizontal vs Vertical)*

**DO NOT ALLOW ETT TO SIT FOR LONGER THAN 6 HOURS BEFORE MISTING WITH WATER!**

Allowing ETT to sit for longer than six (6) hours without misting with water may cause the product to dry out before taking shape within the concrete matrix, resulting in the enzymes to lose their ability to function.

Note: It is highly encouraged, and good construction practice to perform additional water misting two to three times per day while still present at the application site in the following days.

## CMU Walls

CMU Walls exhibit varying porosity and will require minimum three (3) to four (4) passes.

*(see Coverage Rate & Spray Methodology)*

## Post-ETT Application Cleaning

If excess material remains on the surface, it is recommended to clean the areas as necessary to avoid adhesion issues with subsequent materials. This can be achieved with a light pressure wash, avoiding close contact with the substrate.

Do NOT pressure wash immediately after application.
